Chev. Peter Irving Channing Knowles, II
Peter Irving Channing Knowles, II, Captain USAR (Ret.), is a
native of Virginia, and is the son of the Honorable Judge John
Wingo Knowles of the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia
and Mary Alice (Williams) Knowles. He is married to Brantley
Carter (Bolling) Knowles; they have two sons.
Mr. Knowles was invested as a Knight of the Order on November
20, 2004 at St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, by H.E. Col. Chev.
David Nels Appelby, Grand Prior of the Autonomous Grand Priory
of the United States.
Mr. Knowles was graduated from
St. Christopher’s School, and
received a degree in civil engineering from
Virginia Military
Institute (VMI). He is a retired general contractor, and in
that capacity, oversaw many important historical renovations,
as well as the building of numerous ecclesiastic and
scholastic structures, during his three decades in this field
of endeavor.

Other Notes
In Virginia, Mr. Knowles is a former trustee and past board
president of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia
Antiquities (APVA/Preservation Virginia), which is the
nation’s oldest statewide preservation group, having been
founded in 1889. Additionally, he served four terms as a
trustee of St. Catherine’s School [Episcopal], Richmond, and
is a former vestryman of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal
Church. In Florida, Mr. Knowles serves as a trustee of the
Historical Society of Palm Beach County, was a charter member
of the Board of Benefactors of the HSPBC, and is a member of
the Preservation Foundation and the Flagler Museum.
