Overview

As Prior of the Priory of St. Michael and St. George, I would like to welcome each of you to our website and tell you about the wonderful work that the Order is currently involved with around the world.

The Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (SMOTJ), also known internationally as Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani (OSMTH), is an organization with members in over forty countries, focused on human rights, political and religious freedom, and
humanitarian aid to the world's less fortunate.

The Order in the United States encourages increased understanding   between  religions; helps  pilgrims  visit

holy places; maintains a Christian presence in the Holy Land, supports the poor, sick, and unjustly accused; and stands against oppression and protects freedom of speech.  SMOTJ is officially recognized by the United Nations in Special Consultative Status and furnishes an OSMTH Official Delegations to the United Nations in New York City, Vienna, and Geneva.  The various international projects of the Order can be perused on the International Home Page, as well as a list of the various countries where SMOTJ's presence is currently recognized. The Order in the United States is divided into local priories, each of whom has a local charity that they support in addition to the ongoing worldwide efforts.  The Order encourages all members to be active in any and all projects of interest, either on the local, national or international level.

Here in New York City, the Priory of St. Michael and St. George is especially privileged to be near the United Nations, Two members of our priory represent the order at NGO meetings and conferences.

The Order has additional purposes, which include the encouragement of the noble ideals of chivalry, and maintaining the monuments, archives, and history of the  Knights Templar.  Many  of our Knights and Dames have made pilgrimages to the various sites of Templar importance around the world and continue to support the preservation and restoration of those sites.

As you can see, the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem has a deep connection to the early Templars, not through mere historical genealogy, but through the ideals and works of those brave knights whose valor and courage echoed the words of Psalm 115: Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory.
