Brantley
Carter Bolling Knowles, a native Virginian, is the
daughter of Albert Stuart Bolling, Jr., and Brantley
Carter (Lamberd) Bolling. She has been married since 1970
to Peter Irving Channing Knowles, II, Captain USAR (Ret.);
they have two sons.
Mrs. Knowles was invested as Dame of the Order on November
20, 2004 at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, by H. E.
Col. Chev. David Nels Appleby, GCTJ, GMTJ, Grand Prior of
the Autonomous Grand Priory of the United States.
Mrs.
Knowles' early education was in Portsmouth, Virginia, and
she was later graduated from
St. Catherine's School in
Richmond. A retired appraiser of antiques and personal
property, she was the founder and former owner of Chadwick
Antiques, Ltd. Mrs. Knowles is a consultant to
over seventy museum properties throughout the United States. She is a frequent lecturer
and writer on genealogical subjects, the decorative arts,
history and historic preservation. She and her husband
maintain residences in Virginia and Palm Beach.

In Virginia, Mrs. Knowles is, or has been, a trustee of The
Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA),
The Historic Prestwould Foundation, Gunston Hall
Plantation, The Museum of the Confederacy, The White House
of the Confederacy, and is a sustaining member of the
Junior League of Richmond. Florida activities include: The
Preservation Foundation and the Board of Benefactors of
the Historical Society of Palm Beach County. Mrs. Knowles,
a member of The Garden Club of Virginia and The Garden
Club of America, is an artistic flower arrangement judge
in both organizations.
